Opis winnicy "If God had forbidden drinking, why should He have created this great wine?" Marshal de Richelieu According to legend, Saint Vincent, Saint of winemakers, was sent on Earth by the Eternal Father, to see what a really good wine was. Saint Vincent arrived on the lands of château La Mission Haut-Brion, and tasted the wine, then tasted again and finally again and again more than the reason would allow it. God, to punish him, transformed him into a stone statue. The statue remained many years in the cellar, but it has unfortunately disappeared today…. During the sixteenth century, Arnaut de Lestonnac acquired a parcel of vines, called "Arrejedhuys" plot, around which he decided to build the field of Mission Haut-Brion. In the seventeenth century, the estate was bequeathed to the Fathers Lazarettos. This order, also known as the Priests of the Mission, was created by Saint Vincent de Paul. These priests cultivated vines in the field and gave it their name, with the name of the place, where they were cultivated the vines, called "Haut-Brion". Thereafter, in the eighteenth century, the Chiapellas, from America, developed the trade and the reputation of the wine to the USA. Starting from the late nineteenth century, many wine traders have succeeded at the head of the field. In 1953, the red wine of La Mission Haut-Brion reached the title of "grand cru classé" of Graves. In 1983, the Dillons, also owner of the famous château Haut-Brion acquired the field. Located not far away from the first vintage classified, Haut-Brion, the wine of the Mission is nonetheless different. Powerful, expressive, he developed a very "feminine" touch. The château also produces a second wine, La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion, from the youngest vines. Its name is a tribute to the chapel of the castle, Notre Dame de Haut-Brion, which was erected by the priests in the seventeenth century.
